Do you think a rook is doing well in Sweden? The answer is unfortunately “no”. Råkan ended up in a category that can be killed for a large part of the year in Sweden.

EXACTLY LIKE THAT!!! THE CROW IS RIGHT!

The category is called the group division “Annex 2” in “the EU-directive 2009/147/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 30 November 2009, on the conservation of wild birds” (Better known as “the bird directive” in Sweden.
The entire directive can be found here:the bird directive
More information about the accident can be found here:Rook(under “legal status”)
It is not the case that it may be killed in all EU countries, but in Sweden the decision has been made that it may be killed (see table below).

Why would anyone want to kill such a fine animal? It is pure evil that comes out in the person who wants to do it. Rook lives in a social context where they have friends, a permanent partner for life and children nearby. It’s easy to compare a rook colony to a human family really.
Unfortunately, many do not see it that way. They see it as a human right to take an animal’s life. You usually find a reason/defense for not feeling guilty, such as e.g. “They are loud”, “they poop on my car”, “we need to reduce the number” etc…
